How do you spell...
Vacume, vakume, vacum...aaahhhh!
We have weekly spelling words. I give them their words on Monday with a test on Friday. Students will write the words in their agenda every Monday morning.
Please practice the words at home during the week. Some kids (and families) find the ESP sheets useful. They are fun paper copy worksheets students can do. Please let me know if you are interested in these. I will some a few home over the first 4 weeks just so you can see.
I am using their spelling words as printing practice as you will see on their spelling test. You will see that even though the spelling of the word is correct it may be marked incorrect. There is a notice coming home to explain this in more detail. Letter size will be important and having capitals in the right spots.
I know this may be hard to imagine. Just wait till we get rolling and hopefully you'll get a feel for things.
If you have any questions, as always, please be in touch

Spelling Groups
Hi parents,
You are getting 3 spelling tests completed by your kiddos. I have used these tests to determine what spelling group they are in. There was no practice time for these words. I use these words to see what they already know. I look to see how close their spelling is, if they know word families, common endings and common blends (like 'tion' sounds like 'shun'), then...poof...they are in a coloured group.
There are 3 groups (GREEN, ORANGE, BLUE).
Kids can move between these coloured groups to make sure they are in a good fit group. The Blue group has the hardest words, so there is no colour beyond that. With this said, I have many tricks in the classroom to make sure your son or daughter is always challenged.
We will have our spelling tests every Friday
The last thing will be an explanation of how I mark spelling tests. For example, if you see 13/20 "Could have got....17/20". In nutshell, I tell students printing is important (size and shape of the letters). This will become more clear once we get rolling.
